Give Foster Parents Room to Breathe With Respite
Recognizing that foster parenting can be a challenging experience, FE encourages foster parents to take a “breather” from fostering. This temporary relief from parenting responsibilities is called “respite” (less than 72 hours) or “Intermittent Alternate Care (IAC)” (72 or more hours). All foster children in the home must be on respite/ IAC at the same time in order to meet the definition.
Respite Minimum Requirements:
- Cleared Background Checks
- 21 years of age
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Safe home environment with adequate sleeping space for children
In addition to the requirements listed above, IAC providers must meet the following:
- Behavior Intervention Training
- Psychotropic Med. Training
- Negative TB screening
